I think slidy bit of forks is probably hard chromed, I remember too many car bumpers that went rusty.

I find riding naked SV with standard can and no fly screen, at legal speeds perfectly ok without earplugs. I think fairings do two things, they reflect engine noise up towards your head and also...

R1ffR4ff indicated that you need to bridge the neutral switch in the plug rather than just unplug it....

If it dies with bike in neutral when clutch released may be neutral switch faulty or mechanically disconnected from mechanism.
