Re: Bike expenditure app - Roadtrip

And that makes my point. Seemed perkier doesn't quantify, and the approach of good enough mpg avoids the facts bit too.

The fuel companies say you get more miles to the tank, but don't quantify...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

I think I'm weird.

Putting the winter lining in my jacket satisfies me.
Chill in the air and clear blue skies. Bike cleaned, chain cleaned and lubed.
Hmmm, heated bar grips.

USB socket...

Re: AL7 at 20,000 miles

The last two SV I had did 99000 and 69000 miles. The latter is still going I believe.

To get luggage on the back use some webbing straps and either tie off to the sub frame under the pillion seat...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Are you sitting on a used car tyre in the street while the kids play on the pavement? If not, don't complain. I had kids go to one of those.
I soon got an urgent phone call and we had to leave.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Sadly armed robbers don't worry about 'No Moped' signs and wheelchair users tend to complain about steps etc.

Video surveillance is great for watching it over again and, boy, do we have cameras!

Re: Bike expenditure app - Roadtrip

What no one seems to relate back is how much performance improves. As the fuel is 4% more expensive at the moment I want to see at least that as a performance improvement in mpg. Otherwise it's a...

Bike expenditure app - Roadtrip

I've been using Roadtrip on my iPhone to track bike expenditure for the last 10 years and have only just found a whole load of functions I didn't know existed.

At long last I have a way of doing...

Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

How warm is 'warm?'

Is it ouch to touch, or a hold it and it seems warm? Or is it that your finger prints stick to the disc, fry and don't come off hot?

Is the disc turning blue?

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Are both pads dragging, or only one? Are the pads striking the disc square?

If the pads are dragging too much they get the disc so hit the heat then starts causing the problem to get worse. After...

Re: Handguards for 2016-

Looks just like a Hilti expanding anchor fixing to me. Should be able to tighten right up, but it won't undo without a tap with a hammer and drift.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

People who keep asking me to change doors on buildings so that mopeds can't get in.

The same people drive in to work with bikes filtering through stupidly small gaps (and I'm on one of them). Why...

Smile of the day - What is yours?

Mentioning Polite vests works every time.

Re: Accessing rear side spark plug (K8)

The lead should have a cap with long boot on it. So it's possible to grab enough to pull the cap off the plug.
The reservoir should then have a cut out allowing you to see the plug top.

The...

Re: Central Heating Boilers:

To return to topic. I like Worcester Bosch.
Reliable, easy to get hold of parts of needed and well understood by engineers.

I had to get a new boiler a few years ago to replace a 30yr+ one....

Loose Key - SV650 1999

Wd40 would probably work but is a little sticky and might trap more crud. Try some Kaba lock cleaner or Scottoil at a push. They aren't sticky.
Be prepared to do it every day for a while.

Re: Central Heating Boilers:

Scottish Water have to correct the pH in a lot of areas. Legislation requires supplies to be between pH 6.5 - 9.5 in part to prevent corrosion, in part because below that range it tastes. (It also...

Re: Central Heating Boilers:

Not true.

The salts in hard water act as a buffer and raise the pH without them the pH drops below 7.
Copper will suffer pitting at even pH6 which then creates corrosive sulphates. (These cause...
