Re: 2014 L2 Pointy for sale

That's a smart-looking bike and no mistake. Shame I'm not looking for a new SV at the moment!

I have a question about the raised clipons, how much were they, and did you need to fit longer clutch...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

That does look nice. Apart from weight and sound, does a can make a difference to performance anywhere in the rev range?

I guess they're all much the same in terms of internal design - a...

Re: National Scooter Rally

Vespas have the left-grip gear change too. I personally think Lambrettas look very nice, whereas Vespas are a bit porky. It's 30+ years since I had a go on one but they're horrible to ride, they...

Re: National Scooter Rally

Isn't it just. I was out on Wednesday night round Matlock Bath way, and there was a group of around 20-25 scooters coming the other way, the air was fragrant for a couple of miles :)

At Llyn...

Re: Throttle Valve Seizing

Probably a good idea to do that while it's an easy job. Just in case the cables are stiff / sticky

Re: Throttle Valve Seizing

Hose all the pivot points on both throttle bodies with WD40, leave alone for a few house, hose them again, then try moving them and see if they've freed up. It's likely to be a buildup of road crud...

Re: Watch out for tourists

Ouch, sorry to hear about the elbow, but looking at the videos you did an excellent job of damage limitation, it could've been much worse. And as you say, it happened VERY quickly.

What dashcam...

Re: Gonna be a lumpy ride...

I'd start by checking the two sensors in the airbox, make sure they are clean and not covered in oily film. Clean the connectors while you're at it, and any others you can get at as Bibio said.

Re: Watch out for tourists

Bloody hell, sorry to hear that. Hope you get you and the bike sorted quickly. Where did it happen, and was it an European car/driver visiting the UK, or a UK driver f*cking up?

Re: Shrewsbury this afternoon

No worries, Sunday mornings are usually free for me, so it's bike time. It was a cracking ride, a few caravans and camera vans but they didn't get in the way too much :)

Re: Shrewsbury this afternoon

This is why I head to Wales of a weekend, it is SO much quieter once I'm across the border. Bala tomorrow, at the lake caff at the top of Llyn Tegid about 9:30 / 9:45 with any luck ...

Re: Insurance Q: awareness course or points & fine?

@RedHerring & Bibio - in hindsight, I should have asked to see the dashcam footage at the time. You're right, it was not a tight bend, although I couldn't see all the way around it because of...

Re: Insurance Q: awareness course or points & fine?

I checked the websites of my bike insurer (Carol Nash) and car insurer (Direct Line) and both say in their FAQs that they don't view courses as convictions, so there's no need to actively inform...

Re: Insurance Q: awareness course or points & fine?

What happened was this: I was approaching Blaenau, heading North (uphill) on the A496.

Came up behind a slow-moving Micra (doing 40mph uphill where the road is NSL). Continuous traffic the...

Re: Anybody out and about?

Exactly - I feel the same. On my runs to Wales (setting off about 7:30 / 7:45am) there's hardly anyone else on the road. Heading back home at 11am ish, it's garden-centre-tastic

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Ah, fair enough. I guess a small amount of the oil will eventually find its way to the o-rings and help to stop them drying out and tearing.

Re: More ridiculous mpg figures (AL7)

Back in the early 2000s, when we still used to get milk delivered, I was tinkering with my 380 in the garage when our milkman turned up. He mentioned he had a Kettle, and we got chatting about...

Re: More ridiculous mpg figures (AL7)

The Kawa triples are such good-looking bikes .... but you'll never get 85mpg out of them :-D

Re: Insurance Q: awareness course or points & fine?

Thanks again for the advice. Got the letter at the weekend and I've been offered a course. Only a 3-hour job and 85 quid so it's cheaper than the fine and no points either. So it's a no-brainer.

Re: Anybody out and about?

Nice pic, hope you had at least one hand on the bars while you were taking it ;):D

I'll have to head down that way at some point and explore the roads there.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Great explanation there, Bibio. Do you have a dual-nozzle oiler, i.e. it oils both sides of the chain?

This is a stupid question but it's puzzled me for a while: how do the single-nozzle...

Re: Anybody out and about?

Had a cracking run out to Bala this morning, and back home via Ruthin. it was surprisingly quiet on the roads. What was even more surprising was the complete lack of police, I assumed it'd be...

Re: More ridiculous mpg figures (AL7)

85mpg is excellent. I bet that front mudflap costs you 5mpg in air resistance, mind ;):D
