Ditto, it'll last until chain needs doing.

Re: Shock knuckle assembly

It is dark, and under there is very dirty, but I think they are on the inside.

You definitely don't want much float (because when you do the bolt up, it will flex the frame inwards until it hits...

Re: Shock knuckle assembly

Part 6, the collar, must be a tight fit in the frame so it cannot float sideways (much, say 1mm)

I think part 7's are washers, and should be used under the bolt head, and the nut, to protect the...

Re: Project sv650

You need the pump because the bottom of OE tank is not high enough above the float bowls to give enough pressure via gravity alone.

If the bottom of your tank is higher than OE, then you may get...

Re: Insuring a lowered bike

Normal brokers don't like mods at all, to the point of being silly.

Try Bikesure, they have a far more sensible approach to mods, especially if done on phone when you can talk about your exact...

Re: Changing to a naked

Not a lot, couple hundred if lucky? Separately will yield more, but take time.

A lot easier, cheaper and quicker to do a bar conversion only, get the best of both worlds that way.

Re: Tyre Sealant

+1.

Find out where the problem is, before taking it apart.

Re: Newbie to group - advice needed!

The lowering kit will slow the steering, which is probably why he didn't like it.

However, as a newbie that is probably a good thing, so dont worry about it, you wont notice unless you ride it...

Re: running problems

If you do change the RR, make sure you carefully inspect related wiring, and remove the extra unnecessary connector, the Electrex RR comes with full instructions for this.

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Putting it back together exactly as you found it only works if it was correct in the first place, use the marks!

In theory it doesn't matter where you measure the gap, or where the cams are when...

Re: Gear/nautral issues

Check its not the gear lever, disconnect from change shaft (mark spline position) and check everything is smooth and free (lever pivot, 2 rose joints)

3-5mm play on clutch lever, use adjuster to...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

Post a photo of both the cam and crank markings, put them in the cloud somewhere and link if needed.

You don't necessarily round old shim to the nearest 05, just use the 05 shim that will give you...

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

The factory has non 0.05 shims, so they can set them perfect. Most bikes have non 0.05 shims in them.

Regarding markings, sounds odd, are you absolutely sure?

If you are sure, have the valves...

It copes well, cleaned regularly and coated in FS365 :-)

Re: Who's still riding?

I've got a Dorsoduro as well as the SV. The SV is off the road for maintenance, and the Dorsoduro is taking all the salt and muck.

Luckily it has heated grips, will be using it tomorrow for a...

Re: anti freeze

No more than any other water, when mixed with coolant in a sealed system.

Any clean water is fine (inc non hard tap), or make it simple and buy premix.

Re: 2005 SV650s Valve Clearance Question

And that is the main/only reason you would bother getting a shim kit.

If you can have it off the road for a few days whilst you get the shims you need, just buy what you need. As Johnnyrod said,...

+1 on Halfords OAT, also called "Advanced" I think. Mix yourself is cheaper, but also buy battery water to mix it with.

Also make sure you remove all previous antifreeze with a good flushing, if...

Re: London based SV650s riders/tall rider question

Yes it was, the later ones had a lower seat, you can see the difference in the shape of the little black triangle panels under the seat.
