Re: Strange misfire

Ancient thread I know but in case someone else comes to this thread... Not exclusively it wasn't, no.

***Aftermarket*** restriction was via carb washers, the Suzuki restriction was by a set of...

Re: Minitwin weight

Old post but I weighed my track '00 SV700, 169.6Kg fully wet. 166Kg without fairing.

Weight without the fairing was almost scarily even, 83Kg front and back.

It's not impossible but it would...

Re: Oil burning after laid up

It is entirely possible that they were not freshly bored but were "re-used". New pistons not really needed with a fresh rebore as long as they're in spec, you do need new rings though (and you should...

Re: Oil burning after laid up

There were no matching witness marks on the pistons so I'm somewhat at a loss.

I didn't pay for the original big bore "work" but someone paid £1800 for it >10 years ago. I'd be pretty ****ed off...

Re: Oil burning after laid up

No point, I picked up a pair of barrels off ebay for £20 and got a fresh rebore on them. I've no use for a spare set and if required I'd just do the same again. Especially as I have an a engine just...

Re: Oil burning after laid up

For closure... I ended up getting a "new" set of barrels bored out and new rings as well as new valve stem seals.

Seems to have cured it of its oil drinking excess.

Re: Oil burning after laid up

You would have thought so but it's not noticeably smoky. I would have expected it to be laying down a smokescreen worthy of the rolling coal boys but nothing to be seen.

A bit less than a litre...

Oil burning after laid up

I have a curvy which has a big bore kit to take it to 700cc.

It's a track bike so doesn't get used much, especially after some little people made an appearance. :)

Anyway, after being laid up...

Re: SV1000 throttle body size?

Yep! :) The *really* crazy bit is when I turbo it.

Cheaper but not by a lot and postage + duty is a killer.

Trouble is I want to see them first before buying 8, as new that's £360! They look as...

Re: SV1000 throttle body size?

A GT40 with a 4l V8, I was just wondering if instead of the hayabusa throttle bodies (which everyone wants and are rather pricy) ] could instead use TLR (I've already picked up one set for £1+...

Re: SV1000 throttle body size?

Cheers Dave, that's slightly disappointing, I was hoping it was going to be the same as the TLR (about 61mm)

Afraid its not SV or even v-twin related, more V8 related. :)

SV1000 throttle body size?

Does anyone know the OD of the SV1000 throttle bodies at the inlet side?

Re: Smoking

I keep meaning to sort the back end on mine, need to swap the subframe (which I have a spare of) as I can't currently carry pillions due to the amount of movement in the grab-rail. Plus I plan to...

Re: Smoking

About time!

Strangely enough I had to swap the fuel pump on mine recently too. Still mine did have ~74k on it so it had a good life! (plus I already had a spare).

Re: Dyno Run & Mapping

While I have no actual experience of what SV650Racer is selling (not having a pointy!), all the PC3 and others of their ilk is try and fool the ECU into what they 'want' as a map. Its a sledgehammer...

Re: Not revving past 11,500rpm in 6th

Mine did. 10.5k in top, bike in front (VTR1000) was indicating 145[1].

[1] The speedo I had at the time stopped registering properly at 65, fine for legal use, useless for 100+! :-)

Re: Putting Curvy away - what to do?

There are some allen headed screws in the bottom of the carb bowls.

It depends on how long you're laying it up for and where though, if its going to be inside and for <1 year then I'd personally...

Re: Oil usage question.

A good possibility, I've not looked at the plugs yet.

I'll check the compression on it and take it from there, although I'm tempted to do a full rebuild as IMO it should be making far more power...

Re: Oil usage question.

Dunno, forgot to check and I'll have to wait until the w/e to find out. No one reported vast amounts of smoke though.

Re: Oil usage question.

My SV seems to now be using a significant amount of oil, significant as in it got through ~750ml in ~193miles. Admittedly those miles *were* round Cadwell Park and there was a fair amount of high...

Re: racing tyre pressure

The suggestion I've had is as a starting point measure hot and set to stock cold presures (33/36 IIRC). Then remeasure when cold so you can replicate.

Re: Taken out at Cadwell :-(

Tractor!?! :smt104:smt072

It's not that loud on a part throttle. Passes easily. It just gets very loud indeed on full throttle.

I've been re-tested more times than I can count. Officials have...
