Thanks for the info, that was an interesting for me to read. I'm not too sure why the idle battery voltage increased so much by directly wiring the R/R to the battery. There was only 0.4 ohms...

Bike is now running i think the cutting out was due to a vacuum leak on the front carb as the rubber bung had a small crack on it.

Yes the stator was outputting approx 80v AC at 5k rpm. But the fact that the bike will no longer start at all baffles me.

Yeah the fuel is on the outside of the float bowl so there is a potential leak, it is a very small amount though. I haven't had the time to look but will do soon. And yeah I'm in the UK.

The choke works fine guys, it changes the idle speed however doesn't make a difference whether it's on or off during startup, the bike still dies.
