Re: Tiiiimber!!

Politicians doing what politicians do.

IMHO, if they had real principles and integrity, they'd oust the problem but stay to take accountability for clearing up the mess.

Reading Sunak's letter,...

Re: HMRC - it's tax time again

2000/year in tax isn't raking it in. That's about 22k gross PAYE equivalent isn't it - hardly a large income, well below UK average.

Re: Engine won't turn - stuck.

Possibly the float valve on the rear carb was in very good order, certainly good enough to block fuel passing under gravity.

Also, it's possible that the problem was there before you bought the...

Re: Opposite directions

Good write-up. Useful (not that I'm anywhere near to buying a new bike.)

This was ultimately the reason why I sold my VFR800 and happily took over my son's curvy.:)

Do they really need one...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I agree except when it comes to homes - I suggest the housing options and costs were generally better (or at least more proportionate) in the 70s

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I wonder if that consideration has ever crossed Nicola Sturgeon's mind? (Scotland/England and Scotland/Ireland borders required to support independence might have practical consequences...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I see you spotted another of my big-time gripes.

Yet I thought I'd suppressed my dislike reasonably well in the earlier post!

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Yes, and not ignored. But I just think it's inappropriate that owners seem to be able to make huge amounts of money simply due to the fact that they own and without taking much risk - where's the...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

If the extra amount didn't end up in their pocket as profit and there were things in place to control the pool of prospective buyers (or bias it towards other factors) then maybe sale price wouldn't...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

This is what annoys me. It's a fallacy IMHO. There's no reason renting can't be structured to give long term stability and security. It works in much of mainland Europe. Unfortunately, the...

Re: A bit of a sesiwn

Very enjoyable - foot tapping stuff!:) There's something about higher tempo traditional folk/roots instrumental music that draws me in.

One of my regrets in life is that I didn't put the effort...

Re: Imperial units

I think we're agreeing.:) I agree the media wouldn't waste print on things that don't exert influence - I realise the importance is more about the ability to influence than the topic itself (which I...

Re: Imperial units

Oh dear! What a sad indictment on the government and the media when this sort of thing gets picked up as important.

Imperial units were never banned. Nor do I think they're part of cultural...

Re: Channel 4 privatisation

Seeker, you may be right. I'm more a devil's advocate in this one.

The downside you describe should be worried about. I don't disagree about that.

However, there is also a possible upside...

Re: Channel 4 privatisation

Hang on, don't commercial stations already take risk making programmes that might not sell? Cross-subsidy is always difficult to gauge - there's usually a reason programmes don't make money but I'd...

Re: Non Fungible Tokens

Nope, I still don't get it. Why do we need a decentralised ledger to permit trade? It seems to be built on a constructed fallacy that subjective interpretation/opinion should have universal value,...

Re: The future (economics)

I've never quite understood why we should care about "the economy" as a thing. Surely it's just a mixture of other things that are more meaningful?

Re: Channel 4 privatisation

I'd always regarded Channel 4 as just another station in the competitive advertising-funded market. i can't get particularly excited about this one.

Public-owned and public-funded mean subtly...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Don't get hung up on warranty periods. There's a fair bit of law that may be able to help you if they don't come back with a helpful suggestion and you need to be more forceful.

The Sale of Goods...

To put it another way, GB annual electricity usage is c. 350 TWh, so we're talking about three months of powering the entirety of England, Scotland and Wales here!:smt119

I have to admit, I don't...

Reinforcing this point of view, many say that we are now seeing the consequences of ignoring the previous action against Crimea. So, the modus operandi is already clear and visible ...
