Yes, the Pentland Firth can be rather rough, as I found out during a trip from the Orkneys to the mainland, where our 33 metre boat pretended to be a submarine.

Depends where you dive, my sister has done some in Channel Islands, Scotland etc, where the clarity is excellent.

Round here, you'd be lucky to see your hand in front of your face. :p

Yes, although I bet you can get some stuff 2nd hand, like the air cylinders & harnesses

Diveline are very good, they charge the air bottle we use at work for our BA equipment.

If you ask politely, they might give you a free trial dive in their pool. Its great fun & warm.
