Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Ha! Can now balance that out with my non motorcycling gripe of the day.

It seems that pretty much every time I go to use my HP office Jet wireless printer these days, I have to uninstall and...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Now for something that IS about Motorcycling, but DEFINITELY isn't a gripe of the day

Had a similar experience, also years ago, main differences being I suspect I was going faster,...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Yes I agree, if they are close enough where they may be considering an overtake, but I was talking about when a car is still much further back......

I'm just saying from the moment I become...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Rather depends how much speeding up we are talking about. If I was doing 50 in a 60 (then obviously dependent on road type and conditions) I would be expecting that there's a reasonable chance a car...

Re: definitions

To my distinctly novice eye (never been interested in militaria) those VFR exhaust cans look rather gun like.

I don't suppose you are talking protection Mad Max style?

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I'm not looking for another argument Svenrico ;) and I totally agree that attempting this:

Much better than a solicitors letter if you can manage it, BUT considering your gripe of the day, I...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Read this out to my wife, as she'd recently been a little unhappy with one of neighbours over a boundary issue (but nothing approaching this level of appaling behaviour).

She pointed out that many...

Re: I feel sorry for MPs

Thought you might, as 16 MPs are better value for the taxpayer than one Zoe Ball, IMO.

The fact that trying to become an MP is already...

Re: Valve clearances at 30k miles

A bit more these days but wasn't back in the nineties when I did alot of my riding on chain drive bikes (before getting a shaft drive BM). Used to think 12k was decent life for a (non O.E.) chain...

Re: Valve clearances at 30k miles

That's also good to hear, 15000 miles seems a long way off at the moment, but I think the SV is a keeper (had my 640 Duke2 16 years now).

Seeker, not sure if you missed my query about your chain?

Re: Valve clearances at 30k miles

Good to hear valves all still in spec at that mileage. Two of the four clearances were out on my 390 Duke at 5000 miles. Took me hours and hours to get it apart and back together, due both to the way...

Re: definitions

Got to hand it to you Svenrico, you are pretty skilled at dodging the question - have you ever thought of a career in politics?

Don't want to bore everyone else by attempting a Paxmanesque...

Re: definitions

You also said you think "tail tidies" spoil the look of any bike, which suggests you think a tail tidy would spoil the look of the YZF R125. Was just curious if that is what you actually think on...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Thought it pretty unlikely (unless you were already at 80k miles or something) but seemed worth asking the question.

Not had too many reg / rec issues over the years, TDM850 was by far the worst...

Re: GRmoto Exhausts

Stock silencer on the Gen 3 SV weighs 4.3Kg, so you could expect a useful weight saving if you swap it out for one of these

I give you the Yamaha YZF R125:

I'm guessing that this little sporting Yamaha wasn't uppermost in your mind when you said that???

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

You've replaced the reg / rec on your 4 year old SV?

Was the stock unit actually faulty? (and if so at what mileage?)

Or was it just a case of you didn't like the fact the stock item ran hot...

Always knew there had to be a better use for Bluetooth than just facilitating annoying calls in the car from SWMBO.

Just my luck I go to order and they're out of stock ...

Re: definitions

Fair comment.

Ditching the tail actually also saved some weight (about half a Kg), which was another reason it felt worth doing to me (in conjunction with some other weight reductions). Depends...

Must admit, I've never properly studied one in the flesh - mainly just seen pics, so was oblivious. Now I've found pics of the other side, yeah looks terrible.

I probably broadly agree with...

WooHoo !!

:rave:

it's great to know where circa £700 of styling mods - seat / ridiculously priced screen (see other thread) / carbon can / exhaust hanger / tail tidy etc. etc. can get you.

Re: The SV

16 years since I last rode it, but I seem to remember having the exact same issue on my DR350. On the more potent DRZ, perhaps it could have been worth experimenting with slightly taller gearing?...

Re: Honda CB350

Quite like the looks, a pity about the 20hp power output - pretty disappointing when the DR350 could muster 30hp 30 years ago and Honda's own CBX250RS was good for 31hp 35 years ago - both air cooled...
