Navfree is good - although the maps are sometimes slightly iffy, its free and has loads of European maps to download for free too (On android.. i think iphone you need to pay) Used it a few times...

Very good point - i could get a good boost from just doing that and then wiring up a standard 5v ciggie lighter type charger. Less hassle... though i guess in both implementations it needs me to ride...
