Re: The All New Megathread

I don't particularly mind being followed or following, to be honest, but as you say, even at my usual 65 - 70ish on open roads I tend to find I'm rarely being overtaken these days.

Re: The All New Megathread

I regularly get the same. Yes, sometimes it's nice to chill and enjoy the view but there are plenty of opportunities to do that when you can't overtake because of oncoming traffic etc.

Re: Rowdy - news?

Bloody hell, I'm very sorry to hear all that, Rowdy. Sending you best wishes that you heal quickly and that you can start to resolve those family issues.

Re: tighter or looser?

Exactly this. Regular high rpm usage will accelerate valve seat recession (thus clearances closing up) simply because the valves are slamming more frequently into the valve seats per hour of riding....

Re: Cleaning downpipes with Harpic Power Plus 10x toilet cleaner

Yes, the Harpic does work - brush on carefully to avoid splashing on engine cases etc, leave 10 mins, rinse off. However I found the first 18 inches of downpipe (i.e. the hottest parts) discolour...

Re: The All New Megathread

I've ridden past the road to Ysbyty Ifan when heading from Bala to Ffestiniog on the B4391, I'll have to give it a try sometime.

Re: Stamford ride

I think 80-odd mpg is probably realistic over a longer journey like that at a steady within-the-limits pace.

Re: The joys of a spring ride!

Sounds good, Gary. This is why I love early evening rides (https://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php?p=3143697&postcount=6408) too!

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

This should really be 'smile of last night', but anyway. Went out for an early evening ride and reminded myself how much fun they are, simply because the roads are so much quieter after 7pm.

Re: Voting

I strongly suspect that was deliberate on Johnson's part, to garner publicity. He doesn't care that it makes him look stupid or arrogant: all he cares about is column inches.

Re: Voting

Clearly, democracy isn't important to a significant proportion of the population.

To some extent, I can understand why many people are apathetic: the relentless bad news, services falling...

Re: The All New Megathread

Just back from mother-in-law's house after having some estate agents visit to value it.

A couple of the PVC double-glazed units in the house had blown and gone misty. We found the paperwork &...

Re: The All New Megathread

Pretty good here, thanks, Gary.

M-i-L has settled very well in the care home, all the stresses, worries and anxieties she had about living on her own have visibly lifted from her and this in turn...

Re: The All New Megathread

That Northerly was cold, wasn't it? Luckily, over the weekend I scored a great charity shop find: a lightweight quilted down jacket with no hood, which is light and thin enough to wear as a...

Re: The All New Megathread

Off out for a walk shortly myself, just locally, then a spin on the bike.

Mitchells Fold is on of the spookiest places I've ever visited, around the stone circle there's a definite 'presence'.

Re: Ride to Betws-y-Coed

I absolutely love that route to Bala, as you climb up out of Pen-y-bont-fawr and along the top the road and views are stunning. Then over the top again on the B4391 to Ffestiniog and down to...

Re: The All New Megathread

Been a bit full-on here over the past 10 days, moving my mother-in-law to a care home near us. We were worried about how she'd settle in, but she likes it and feels comfortable. She's also just 10...

Re: Gearbox question

My SV gearbox is exactly the same as every other Suzuki gearbox I've used: slick and smooth.

They've ALL had the quirk of sometimes not being able to get neutral from first gear when the bike...

Re: Ride to Betws-y-Coed

Can't this time, Gary, but have a good one.

Are you planning on heading over the top to Bala, then the A4212 & B4391 to Ffestiniog and up to Betws?

Re: The All New Megathread

Same weather here. It was dry and 17 celsius yesterday, I had a lovely ride to Whitchurch with a fast zap down the A41, and today it's February again.

Re: The benefits of body armour...

Interesting, but I disagree based on my own personal experience. When I wrote off my K6S on a patch of diesel in 2019, I went down HARD on my hands and knees at about 40mph. I was wearing...

The state of other peoples' bikes

I was at a biker cafe (Ponderosa in North Wales) yesterday, and about to ride off. A rider pulled up next to me on a Triumph Tiger and as I glanced over, I noticed the chain was bright orange with...

Re: The All New Megathread

:D Certainly in the summer months the Harley riders turn out in force and give it an American flavour. However, it's a bit chilly for them at the moment!
