I bought a lomo in the late 80's as a pocket camera, although I think it was badged as something else. It didn't last long before it fell apart.

Just trudged across to Lidl to pick up a desk lamp (one of their weekly offers). Gave up after walking round the store for ages and having no one to ask. Left empty handed.

I think it's mainly to do with production costs. Make it easy to assemble on the production line therefore saving time and money. Servicing and repair is of secondary interest.

You'll just need the rectifier once you get this project running meantime a battery will be fine.

You need to provide volts to power the ecu etc which a battery will do until it runs flat... assuming the engine has the alternator still installed, you just need to connect that to a rectifier...

Probably more than one, I'm guessing frame , engine, rectifier, fairing sub-frame? The wiring diagram above should show them.

There are various safety interlocks that may prevent the pump from priming, such as the neutral engaged, clutch position and sidestand. Have you bypassed those?
