Re: Tyre change

In changing the rear tire, I found it helped greatly to move the caliper out of the way. Then you only need three hands to put the wheel and spacers back in.

Re: Triumph TF250X

Or hark back to the Trophy 250 from 1970 --

The kind of bike that if something goes wrong on a trip, you just leave it there and take an intercity bus home.

Re: Front fork Springs help

Ummm, progressive springs have a VARIABLE spring rate, low to start, higher as the thing is compressed.

Re: Front fork Springs help

If you go the new springs route, you'll probably need to cut new spacers to get the front sag right.

Re: Honda documentary

My first bike was a CB160 Honda. 4-speeds, pistons going up and down together, one set of points, centrifugal oil filter, and! double leading shoe front brake. Pretty good for its time, but my only...

Re: 2003 sv650 strong crank no start

You're quite right. The +12V travels through the Ignition fuse, the sidestand relay and the kill switch. It gets to the starter button but not the coils. Maybe the problem is in the wiring to the...

Re: 2003 sv650 strong crank no start

I would have another close look at the Ignition fuse.

Re: A ride in the rain

For a while, I was into multi-day camping journeys, typically 9 days on the road. It's got to rain sometime, and I had rain gear and a bike (Concours C10) with good weather protection. So I rode in...

Re: 1st gear clunks

In the dim past, I had a Bridgestone 350 GTR with a dry clutch. Six speed, shift pattern all down, best shifting transmission of all my bikes. No clunking that I remember.

There was a bit of a...

Re: Spark plug codes

That may be true for air-cooled bikes, but with water-cooling, the running temperature is fairly constant, due to thermostat and cooling fan.

Other factors which might require a change in heat...

Re: oil filter tightness

The stock Suzuki filter says to tighten 2 full turns from lightly seated. The owners manual says the same.

This is pretty tight and makes the filter a tad difficult to remove.

I believe...

It was having to meet with Boris Johnson that did her in.

Re: other forums

Still following Yamaha XZ550 Vision, Kawasaki Concours and Ninja 250 fora, every now and then something interesting pops up. For example, the Ninja forum has the best documentation on carb cleaning.

Hmmm, despite his behaviour, he'll still be know as the 'Right Honourable Boris Johnson', believe it or not.

For both horses and motorcycles, you mount and dismount from the left.

Re: Engine won't turn - stuck.

If I understand correctly, you took out the spark plugs and tried to rotate the engine using the rear wheel (presumably in 6th). I'm puzzled why the fuel didn't squirt out the spark plug hole.

Re: Tail Bag Recommendations?

Hmmm, my 2 cents worth. The weight of a rear trunk is cantilevered behind the rear wheel. Aerodynamic forces act to push the trunk backward. Both effects act to unweight the front wheel, which is the...

Re: Power steering...for bikes

Intriguing, considering counter-steering for a single-track vehicle. Maybe it will translate 'pull-left' into 'go-left' for us.
