Could have a look at the state of the intake manifold, may be clogged up and not letting enough flow over the MAS.

It's a symptom of the EGR system introducing soot and the crackcase vent mixing...

Wouldn't have thought so, but it does mix fairly well. Agitate the bottle before use.

The watering down is just to take the strength down and to wash the loosened crud away.

Not forgetting that the standing charge had gone up by £30 due to Ofgem regulations.
