OK, did a quick test last night, put the multimeter across the battery and came out with the following -
Ignition off - 13.5v
Bike running - 14v
Revs @ 5K - 14.5v

Am I missing something as...

No excuse really, but in hind sight,yes I should have done some checks but at the time I thought it was an old battery so as I need the bike everyday I'd order a new one!!
It turns out to be a wrong...

Update - Just got an FinePix HS30 second hand from e-bay, in as new condition. Really looking forward to getting to grips with it in the coming months ahead.
