Re: What have you tinkered with today?

So service manual states resistance on the stator should be 0.5 to 1.25 ohms each coil. I'm getting 1.5 , 1.5 and 1.6 on each of the three coils. Is that a sign it gone then? Something is definitely...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

I'm getting some sort of reading now. My multimeter only has two ac settings though, neither of which are in the right range for a decipherable reading. It jumps around a lot too.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Yep. My previous one had a Tourmax Reg Rec hard wired in. The current one has the stock one that I'll change out at some point.

Tested the charging system on the DRZ. New battery is very low...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

damn. Is that from your VFR? Did you swap out the reg/rec?

I've checked my bottle on the petcock this morning and the DRZ is fine with the petcock in the off position. I'm going to rebuild the...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

This is possible too. It's a 2003 bike so before the vacuum petcocks (2007 onwards I think). I'm checking to see if it's leaking in the off position. I've got a small bottle taped to the petcock. If...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

I'm looking into stator issues. Seems to be a common theme on similar mileage bikes. I'm going to test it when I get another day off. Probably just pull it open and see what it looks like too. It's...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Test rode the DRZ. All good and great fun for half an hour then it got increasingly lumpy and erratic. Very off and on around corners and unless revved it wanted to stall. Didn't like constant...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Got the carb off the DRZ again, just to see if I got anything wrong last time I stripped and rebuilt it. Adjusted the float very slightly and gave everything a good spray in case any grit had got in...

Re: not heard of these before

You worked on Tornados? I used to love them when I was a kid. They used to fly over our house in pairs regularly.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Yes it is. Good point. I'll put the old one back in to narrow it down. I got the right plug and had to remove the small screw cap off the top to make it look like the one that came out and fit ok. I...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

That's the area I'm thinking of. I need to pull the carb off again when I get time at the weekend. Back to cycling to work again for now.

Re: sv650 2018 indicator problem

Hyperflash. You need different relays for them. Sometimes you can by inline resistors.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Actually got the DRZ back together at 1am last night so I could get to work today. It starts and runs but is very erratic. Feels like there's a vibration like it's stopping and starting a few times a...

Cleaned out the rear caliper and started getting the DRZ back together. I need it to get to work tomorrow. It's now started pi$$ing it down outside. I'm mid coolant refresh and all panels are still...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

More van fun. Making slow progress. Ran out of mig wire just before finishing it. Then it got dark. Looks like the van will be jacked up for a few days until I have a day off again.

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

Even now the messages being given out are so confused. Our diesel is zero tax. The petrol version is 180 per year, the same that our 13 year old previous diesel was.

I should have put "dirty...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

I am getting a bit carried away. Once it's apart I like to do a decent job. Found myself cleaning up bolts and nuts with a wire brush drill attachment today though. I really just need to get it back...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

New battery on the DRZ . Tank hooked up with a little fuel in and it runs again at last! Just got to get the back end back on it now. Chucking with rain again though, so might have to pause until the...
