Re: Spark plug socket from tool kit

you need to remove the threaded nipple/ferrule from the top of the new plugs. Is that what is preventing the plug socket fitting onto the plugs?
For the front plug you can unbolt the radiator mount...

Re: Thou has knocking from rear end?

Did you change the sprockets at the same time as the chain? Could be related to parts you have recently worked on if it has started since then. May get a clacking if there is a poor mesh between old...

Re: Coolant TopUp SV650S K6

Something which worked for me was to drain and fill the expansion bottle via the feed tube. If you take the expansion feed tube off the radiator near the cap and tie a length of string to it you can...

Re: Another reason you should change that oil filter

Not a bad idea! Would only needs to cover the vulnerable front and lower front edge.

Re: Another reason you should change that oil filter

Having found a few dings in the filter when changing I had been considering some sort of protection. I fitted a fender extender when the bike was new but the filter is still vulnerable to stones. Has...

Re: Continental Conti Motion opinions?

I've not had the Michelin Pilot Road 5 but can say that for me the PR4 works very well on the SV. I've not taken the bike to a track so can't comment on their suitability for that. I imagine the PR5...

Re: Gloom and despondency

I feel your pain. Not easy, but tell yourself "nothing venutured, nothing gained". Without a working crystal ball you could not have guessed that you would get so many problems with the bike. In the...

Re: Buying a bike from family member - fair value (UK)

I think Squirrel H has the value right. You are facing several unknowns in the recommissioning and as long as the initial exchange is at the right level you will be able to get the bike running...

Re: Piston slap or valves?

It will be interesting to know what the problem is. It just sounds like a worn cam chain to me. I am probably wrong. I often am

Re: Piston slap or valves?

Based on the vid clip (and I know microphones can distort the sound so just guessing) I would be thinking cam chain rattle especially as it quietens off briefly when you increase the revs.

Re: An evening with adventure motorcycle legend Austin Vince

Would like to see one of Austin Vince's evening events. Have enjoyed all the Mondo stuff and like his ethos. Unfortunately a bit far from my homestead but have shared your link with a friend in...

Re: Condensation

I reckon you need to try for a flow of air from one end of the garage to the other. Helped my unheated garage when I put an air brick into the wall furthest from the door (which has a good gap...

Re: Michelin Road 5 Announced Jan 2018

Been very pleased with the PR4s. About 7k on my set and they still have several mm of useable rubber. They have done some long tours and feel planted. Suspect the PR5 will be another good offering...

Re: Exhaust Rattle - how to stop?

As a stop gap bodge you could squirt some high temp silicon sealant at the rattle. Once cured it may stop the noise.
