Re: Back on a bike after 16 years.

If the clutch works fine and isn't slipping, don't worry about it. It might be worth having a check of the brake pads to make sure they are intact, as they may well be the original ones, and they...

Re: Bike expenditure app - Roadtrip

I'm a fuel snob with my bike, and aim to use either Shell, BP or Esso super whenever I can. Largely because of the extra detergent additives that those three have, but there's no real science or...

Re: Accessing rear side spark plug (K8)

For what it's worth, I fitted Iridiums in my K6 two years and 11,000 miles ago. The other weekend while my wife was watching Strictly  I gave the bike a minor service.

The plugs had...

Re: Accessing rear side spark plug (K8)

Never done it myself on a twin-spark SV but over on SVRider, a couple of posts say that the plug box in the toolkit is best as it's jointed so it can get into the confined spaces ....

Re: Are SV1000 really an investment?

That is my one big motorcycling regret. About 15 years ago, I could have bought a really nice H2 (painted front guard, short swingarm etc) for £2,000. Totally original and unrestored, it had been...

Re: Factory Pro Velocity stacks

I fitted the DL stacks. It was straightforward apart from about 15 minutes of wiggling, tugging and twisting to get them mounted properly: I inserted them up and through from the underside of the...

Re: Cutting out as pulling up to junctions

Why don't you just marry a can of ACF-50? ;):)

But seriously, I've also been a big fan of the stuff for over a decade. At the end of October I used to paint it onto all the chrome and bare alloy...

Re: Factory Pro Velocity stacks

These arrived this morning, so I'll get them fitted at the weekend and see what I think. They're the stock airbox inlet rubbers from a 2010 V-Strom:

Re: Factory Pro Velocity stacks

It's true that making sure the rear sprocket is aligned and the chain is properly lubed will free up more BHP than most intake / exhaust mods will make :)

It is interesting that the Gladius uses...

Re: Factory Pro Velocity stacks

They're from Factory Pro in the US: http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prods59,SV650,03-12.html

According to Factory Pro the 35mm & 70mm stack combination in Tapemonkey's pics give a power &...

Re: Is this where i think it is?

I think you've mentioned you've ridden across it before, Gary - I finally made it to Barmouth a couple of Sundays ago (lovely road down from Bala, isn't it) and wondered how the hell you were able to...

Re: SV650 Twin Spark - Battery has life but bike is dead

Please bear in mind that I am no electrical wizard, but if the battery voltage doesn't change at all when you switch on the ignition, and you get no lights or any sign of life from the bike, there's...

Re: What have you tinkered with today?

Obviously the vogue for short mudguards doesn't help, but I reckon modern bikes get muckier because of their wider tyres and larger contact patch, which squeezes more water and road crap off the road...

Re: OMO Pop n Go, what is it

The emblem / sticker is for the ÷sterreichische Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club (÷AMTC) which is the Austrian equivalent of the RAC.

The engine looks French to me, with the 'bacon slicer'...

Re: new Suzuki Katana

Very nice, love the stubby exhaust (although I think it's a Marving with a Yoshi sticker on it). Pity about the aftermarket clocks, one of the best features of the Katana was the speedo / tacho pod...

Re: Noisy Cam chain?

As one of the earlier posts said, it could well be an isolated component failure with the chain - even though SV engines are known for their reliability, one-off problems can happen.

Re: Gearbox F**ked

+1 to Bibio's advice. See what's in the oil and if there's lots of metal, then take it from there.

In some cases there is an argument for repairing your current engine rather than buying another...

Re: Tyres on AL7

I am on the standard SV forks, and we all know what they're like

I run 33psi front, 36 rear measured when cold (I weigh 12.5 stone / 80 kilos). I have tried a couple of PSI less in...

Re: Tyres on AL7

@glang - probably, I certainly do not always get my braking etc done before corner entry. Lots of twisty roads round here too (Cat & Fiddle, Snake Pass, Long Hill etc) so the sides of the tread see...

Re: Tyres on AL7

Like Seeker, I'm also on Avon Storm 3D. The grip and ride are excellent in the dry (I'm a fair weather-only rider too) but oddly the front tyre is down to the wear indicators on both shoulders --...

Re: My first bike

Lovely bike, I bet it sounded nice through the megas too. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of 'helping' my dad work on his CB77 305 (registration JPL 425C).

One time he'd lifted the...

Re: Dope

The gear oil shouldn't affect the clutch 'cos it's intended for wet-clutch gearboxes in 2-strokes ... the friction plate material is pretty much the same across most bikes ...

Re: Dope

For what it's worth, unless you're actually due a filter change I'd just change the oil and leave the filter. Light gear oil is basically a 10W40 oil with extreme-pressure additives to help stop it...
