I find them very good and predictable in the wet, although I'm a little more cautious in wet conditions than dry. Never had a "moment" with them so far though.

I found the same as you dd. parkrun is great for spurring you on, especially in the early days of doing it when almost every one results in a new pb. It gives the weekday runs a focus.
