Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

This had crossed my mind too. I've kept the original piston in the caliper that's fitted and working. The way to find out would to be put the SS piston into the caliper that's currently working and...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

It's working fine now with the original fixed caliper back on there, and that's using the pins from the one that wasn't. Process of elimination suggests there must be a problem with the caliper. Be...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Seals on the problematic caliper that I removed look square. When fitted they do have a ridge which sits slightly proud on the inside. This made me think it was the wrong way around, so I flipped it...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

As far as I know the seals fitted were square. Should they be tapered, and if so which way out?

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Yep, it was a new Hel line fitted recently. Swapped out caliper has sorted the problem, so either it's the other caliper or some coincidence that happened during the swap around.

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

The rear brake pedal is already set as low as it can go. I have to have it set like that or my foot points upwards when using the brake with the Buell lower pegs I've got fitted. I'm similar and only...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Older caliper is now back on the bike, including the original piston and new seals. Much better. The piston is visibly moving back a couple of mm. Pads still drag ever so slightly as is normal, but...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Yep. I always take note of the max line in the reservoir with cap and diaphragm refitted.

Even with reservoir cap removed it was still binding on.

New / old caliper is now refitted and...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Brake lever has been taken apart along with everything else and all seems really good. When it's all empty of fuid the lever has a really good full range of smooth movement and MC piston is moving...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

I think this is part of the issue. I don't think the seals are flexing with the piston. Possibly the seals I've bought, or maybe an issue with the caliper I got a while ago to replace the original...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Not too hot to touch for a short time. But warm even without using the rear brake. Both front calipers and rotors are cold even though they're the ones that get used.

Disc has not discoloured.

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Both pads dragging. Caliper and disc are both warm after riding. The seals are new. The seals I removed before these were almost new too. Piston is new. Hel brake line is nearly new. Master cyclinder...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

All back together. Popped piston again. Refitted it and bled again. Brake lever going rock hard with little movement and brake binding on again. Not as bad as before. There's a tiny bit of movement...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

I wasn't aware of this. I'll check it when reassembled.

I might be guilty of this! Again. will check when I reassemble.. looks like I'm popping the piston out again first too.

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

I've got the MC off now but will check this when I reassemble if it's still happening. Cheers for the info. Helps narrow it down a bit.

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

Cheers, but it's a K8 pointy so different bits. All sliders etc are very good and clean. The piston is a new stainless one fitted less than a year ago. Bike has done less than 600 miles in that time...

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

That got my hopes up that it was something simple... ran out and took caliper off. But, sadly it is the right way around.

Re: Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

I've not heard of that but that's the sort of thing I'm thinking. I did fit a new Hel line from MC to caliper when I last serviced it less than a year ago. Possibly something going on from MC to...

Rear brake still sticking after servicing.

So I 've just overhauled my rear caliper for the second time in a year. Meticulously cleaned out again, although there didn't seem to be any corrosion in there anyway this time. New seals again just...
