Re: Sticky choke lever

Thanks for your reply. I did stuff paper towels into the carb / head stubs as soon as it was possible to do so, and only took them out at the last moment. I also checked the the inlet valves on the...

Sticky choke lever

This is a 2000 SV. Just re-fitted the carbs after thorough overhaul. I got the fiddly choke plunger cable retainer screws back without dropping one down the inlet port, but now I find the plastic...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

UPDATE: I've got the float needle housings out and also the slide needles (I was just being too timid first time). Now that I've given everything a basic clean with carb cleaner, GT85 etc, it all...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

That sounds good. Mine has a short aftermarket silencer which gives a nice deep sound (only heard it at tickover, but sounds excellent). I know how sweet these engines are, having ridden friend's...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

I can't get the Imgur thing to work (it says it needs to verify my phone number, but it hasn't tried phoning!). But the good news is that I've got the carbs apart - the Laser JIS T-handle screwdriver...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

Aha! (as Alan Partridge would say) - so it seems my snorkel remains intact. I'm pleased to know it - looks like lots of carb tuning trouble if it's removed.

Re: Carb overhaul kits

Thanks Biggles. But what does this snorkel look like? I don't know if mine has had it removed or whether what I'm looking at is it! All I see is the air filter box which has a black plastic tube...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

I've just taken the tops off the carbs. The diaphragms looks buggered to me, but I'm not sure - never dealt with carbs like these before. If I could post photos I could show what I mean but I can;t...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

This is an excellent forum. The level of helpfulness and good advice is very high, without the point-scoring or snidey 'you should already know the answer' style of comments I've seen on some other...

Re: Carb overhaul kits

This is just the kind of advice I was hoping for - thanks very much R1ffR4ff, I'll try to save the links & diagram for reference. I reckon I could use the carb balancing kit to good effect on my old...

Carb overhaul kits

I need to strip, clean & rebuild the carbs on my 2001 SV (won't run above tickover). I want to have everything I need to hand before I strip the carbs. I've spoken to Robinsons Foundry and they tell...

Re: Starts & idles nicely but dies when throttle opened

Thanks. I've heard of Robinsons, they've been around for a long time. Glad to know they're still in business.

Re: Starts & idles nicely but dies when throttle opened

Thanks George. I hope to have the carbs off within the next few days. I'm waiting until I get the Clymer manual I've just bought on Ebay before going any further. I might also get a CD of a genuine...

Re: Starts & idles nicely but dies when throttle opened

Thanks Garynortheast and Seeker - the genuine manual will be useful I'm sure. I have got the tank & air filter box off. I've removed the petrol tap (expecting / hoping to find the filter clogged with...

Starts & idles nicely but dies when throttle opened

Hello SV owners - this is my first post, having just joined. I've probably posted in the wrong bit, and there are probably loads of answers to my problem already, but I have tried searching with out...
