Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

If it really matters use a set of welded steel railings to make a chicane outside the door. People and wheelchairs can turn through 180 degrees in a small space, mopeds can't.

Better still add a...

Re: Loose Key - SV650 1999

Normally the key is held in place by the pins in the lock barrel being pressed against key by springs. But if the lock is old and dirty the pins can slide into the barrel and stay there.

Temporary...

I prefer the phrasing, "What's mine is mine, what's yours - that's mine too"

Re: no, I'll pass on this one

Detuned to 670BHP for rideability!!

I'd want a lot less than that in the first few gears to avoid accidental wheelies. But if someone else was picking up the bill for tyres, engine rebuilds and...

And the connection between centripetal force and electrical power is.... the greek letter omega.

The calculation of centripetal force uses the angular velocity, whose symbol is lower case omega ω...

Re: being a white man

I'd agree that there are decent people everywhere, but there are also bad people everywhere. So, why do we have selfish, mean or thieving people?

The best answer I've found is that during good...

Re: being a white man

Over the last 100,000 years tribalism has worked pretty well for the human species. We're not going to eradicate it in a dozen generations.

Racism/religion/football/politics will continue to...

Re: Farewell SV owners

Having sold your soul to BMW, you could sacrifice your first born to Touratech for additional lights.

Re: Dead bike

I'm assuming you've blown the lighting fuse, but do not replace it until the short circuit has been resolved.

Providing you have a voltmeter you can do some basic checks.

1. Check that the...

Re: another Darwin award candidate

Hmm, if only these issues were as simple as politicians and campaigners paint them.

America has a cultural attachment to guns for historical reasons. We can't fix that in any sensible timescale....

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Yikes. I was just about to have a whine about 40mph drivers on my route to work this morning. But having seen this makes my gripe seem trivial.

I hope the genetic tests don't find anything to...

Re: Science

I've just found that we made something that goes even faster, though it took a gravitational slingshot around Saturn to get it up to speed.

Voyager 1 is currently heading into the outer reaches...

Re: Science

Was that a precursor to the SR-71 Blackbird?? Shame there aren't any more of them flying. I was at an air show where one did a low pass on full afterburner - incredible.

BTW, the orbital speed of...

In vacuum all the colours are equally fast, but in air red is slightly faster.

The calculation of wavelength dependent dispersion in a medium of refractive index 1.0003 is left as an exercise for...

I think I have a pyramid plastics one hanging around in my garage for the SV650. Never got around to making brackets for it though.

Re: Oh no, not again (speeding)

Unfortunately, most speed partnerships aren't run by coppers these days. They're run by bureaucrats.

The margin of 10%+2mph comes from the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) guidelines...

Re: Speeding question.

If they drive at 70mph they create a mini traffic jam because nobody will pass them. So there's no chance they will catch an inattentive speeder. Better to drive at 60mph in front of a van or truck...

Re: Speeding question.

Traffic cars should all have forward facing video and ANPR, but from your description it doesn't sound like they would have enough evidence to take action.

In theory it would just take the opinion...

Re: Fuel level gauge - o-ring or no?

You didn't specify which bike you're riding, but if the fuel tank sender only has one wire it probably uses the tank to complete the circuit. This used to be common on older cars, and I assume also...

Re: Race Scrub tyres

Out of 88 views (including mine), I wonder how many still have an SV.

I'm riding a Fazer which takes 180 profile rear, so I wouldn't usually reply.

Apologies for the slow reply, I missed your post.

Re: Vintage film cameras

IIRC, the Nikon FE is almost identical to my FE2 which was one of my favourite film cameras to shoot. Light, quiet, and super simple metering. A real pleasure to use.

So, yeah. You definitely...
