Re: Exhaust Rattle - how to stop?

Bibio, I hate to disagree but please research cold welding of stainless steel fasteners. Using different grades of stainless lessons the likely hood but as most people don't know what they have when...

Re: running problems

It could be old plug caps and HT leads, that can cause rough running as soon as there is any load on the spark.
Also crud in the carbs, it might be sucking gunk up and blocking a jet as soon as the...

Re: Exhaust Rattle - how to stop?

Bibio, Why would putting copper grease on the threads before tightening them up cause the threads to strip? Also stainless to stainless nut bolt combinations should never be done dry as there is a...

Re: Gear/nautral issues

The actuator is a plastic contraption that you can get apart but even if you can find all of the ball bearings the plastic is usually worn out. A new one is normally the only long term solution.

Re: Engine and header painting?

The header bolts are no better or worse than any exhaust bolt. It is the combination of high temps and being sprayed with water/salt over and over again that gets them. Use stainless replacements but...

Re: Engine and header painting?

Those rusty and furry header bolts are coming off the front pot when you want to service your swing arm and rear suspension bushes. Best sort them out now as later! If you do just want to tart the...

Re: anti freeze

As you are adding coolant which is full of corrosion inhibitors as well as antifreeze any corrosive affects of using pure water are negated. I have 1000s of litres of the stuff at work and the...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

Taking my girls sledging for the first time. This is first snow worth mentioning since my girls have been big enough to do more than roll around and fall over. Whilst out in the numpty verse this...

Re: Need Help with my new SV

Carb icing has little to do with ambient temperature and often occurs during hot humid weather. Carb icing is caused by the fuel evaporating causing the carb bodies to become freezing cold. Moisture...

Re: Need Help with my new SV

Sounds similar to a couple of issues I've had with my sv earlier this year. First time was an old plug cap on the rear plug causing it to only run on 1 above around 4000rpm. The second time it did...

Re: SV650X is released for 2018

I know it is all personal taste but steel has the same strength to weight ratio as aluminium and triangulated steel frames can be every bit as rigid and light as alloy beam frames so why not a steel...

Re: Curvy won't idle without choke, won't do mid throttle, will rev

Its not the dinosaur juice that evaporates it is the additives that are used instead of lead. The lovely carcinogenic things like toluene and benzene. These are very volatile and evaporate out of the...

If you go down the gas heater route just remember that they kick out a ton of moisture as well as heat.

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

Just back from the Oxford Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. Tootling around Oxford with 400 odd like minded individuals. You could say it holds the traffic up but in Oxford the council have years more...

Re: Low fuel efficiency, new rider, what to look for?

10 miles per litre equals 38mpg if you are using US gallons. If using proper English gallons then 10 miles per litre is 45mpg.

Re: My new Bike Dealership

Cool as... You need open face lids as well. The next trick is to get lego to make a curvy model to go in your garage.

Re: Clutch advice

I think you need to go for some sort of leverage advantage so you have to pull less for the same effect. Unfortunately if you half the force you will halve the movement which would make getting the...

Re: 3D Printed battery box design for pointy GSXR shock swap

What filament are you using?
I have a 3D printer I am just getting sorted out building an enclosure so I can print ABS/ASA without gassing the kids.
I have several ideas I want to try but other...

Re: Strange misfire

Well I think I've cracked it. Checked the plug cap and it had 12K ohm resistance so that got replaced. Whilst I had the plug cap off I thought I'd check the HT lead as well. It tested at 1 ohm which...

Re: Strange misfire

Dave, sorry I didn't see your post when I started mine. I have a multi meter and will test the coil. I suspect it will be fine cold as the issue is only at high revs when hot. I don't do high revs on...

Re: Strange misfire

My first response would be why not? Or because I can. The engine is designed to be safe to redline and probably a bit beyond. However in this case redline isn't actually where I went, I went to shift...
