Re: More ridiculous mpg figures (AL7)

I would add to that-------ride at the speed where the bike is comfortable to keep in top gear without labouring. Normally about 50-55 mph
Avoid braking. Anticipate needing to slow down and let the...

Re: Elderly Personal Care Help

"Deliberate deprivation" of assets is the term used. It means getting rid of assets or cash in order to avoid paying care costs and councils use it frequently to claw back money. its a bit of a...

Re: 2001 SV650 Engine Diagnostic Help

Engine oil level correct? How often do you check it?
Did you find the ball bearing in the engine oil or somewhere else? The clutch worm drive or steering head come to mind.

Re: 2001 SV650S issues

The choke cables and the plungers where they enter the carbs should be very high up the list of suspects when a curvy runs badly. They need regular servicing but rarely get it.

Re: Alternator/reg/rec question ...

I would start by checking all the connections from alternator to battery and battery to earths. Then borrow a known good fully charged battery and check those charging numbers again. You might find it...

Re: Replacing Fork Springs, Advice Needed.

Id say spend the money on the suspension then keep the bike. It will see you right for many years. Bigger better newer bikes are not really that much more fun than a well sorted sv. You will save a...

Re: Injury Claim

Depends on the amount. I assume you have been paid out for the damage/boots already and the negotiation is just about your foot. They will probably try and offer you less if they think you are an...

Re: K1 starts but cuts out after a second or two.

Quite right. I used to have a EU import SV with none fitted. I never noticed.

Re: Truth will always come out ...

The Mayors of London have usually been knobs but none has ever been in remotely the same league as Trump. You need to try harder to make your point. How about Kim, or Putin?

Re: Creaking from around rear wheel?

All that plus chain too tight? That can cause odd noises.

Re: oil not draining

Just a thought--------Are you sure you are trying to drain it via the correct sump plug hole? there is at least one other bolt stuck in the bottom of the sv engine that is not the sump plug??????

Re: 83 mpg

My old curvy used to do about 50+ mpg out of town.
It was of course much better looking so entitled to use a bit more fuel.
I once had a CB175 as well. It broke a gearbox selector fork and cooked...

Re: Curvy wet weather and other common issues

There is a drain hole that lets water out of the plug recess which exits on the right side of the head and needs to be poked to ensure it is clear. Mirror image one on left side of rear cylinder too....

Re: Intermittent Start

I wouldnt use any oil additive in the engine. It makes no difference to the carburation or ignition side of things which is nearly always where running problems are, and some additives may or may not...

Re: Tyre related question

Perfectly legal to use squared off tyres but if you want to do some "spirited riding" you may find the handling falls short of what you would like. Tyres work best when they are the correct shape.

Re: Curvy gearbox problems

Clutch adjustment is not done at the handlebar end, it is done at the bottom end by setting up the worm gear actuator properly.
The other easy check/service item is the gear lever pivot where it...

Re: SV650AL7 chain and sprockets kit

Going back to your first few posts in this thread--------are you sure you know what you are doing? You wore out a chain in a very short mileage and you think the shop had left the chain too slack....

Re: General Poor running, pops, bangs ,cuts out ?

In addition to above drain all fuel out of the tank and let it settle. Is there any water in it? If there is you need to find out how and why. If not carry on with servicing the carbs.

Re: SV650AL7 chain and sprockets kit

Some chain kits come with both links so you can DIY the job with the clip and ride it to a mechanic to rivit in the proper link. I dont have a chain riviter so thats what I would do.

Re: The Crash Detectives - a sobering story

Thats exactly the kind of behaviour that needs stamping out very firmly. Theres not really any difference between that and killing someone apart from the luck of the draw. If you had fallen off and...
