Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Last night my bicycle ran out of grip going around a roundabout and dumped me on the road.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

That's the whole point. They want you to buy the product for £30 more than their competitors not £5 less. So they offer you £35 cashback on the assumption that only a tiny percentage of customers...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Health is a big chunk of government spending, almost 20% before the pandemic and potentially more now. So you can see why they might want a bit more control. But nobody wants politicians involved in...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Went out this morning and my bike didn't start on the button. Worse still after about three tries the battery gave out. So I had to take the car on a perfectly good biking day.

I'll put it on...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Seeing the Satnav thread resurrected reminded one of my pet gripes.

TomTom offer 'lifetime' map updates with some of their satnav systems. So what does lifetime mean? Lifetime of the user?...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

If we find a cure for malaria, northern Thailand would be a very attractive place to retire to. The Thai language is hard for westerners to learn, but I'm sure I'd get by.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

It might depend on the exact position of a weather front. Where warm air meets cold it might dump 21", but a few miles away there will be no snow at all. Not easy to predict even using your magic...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

If it really matters use a set of welded steel railings to make a chicane outside the door. People and wheelchairs can turn through 180 degrees in a small space, mopeds can't.

Better still add a...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I prefer the phrasing, "What's mine is mine, what's yours - that's mine too"

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Yikes. I was just about to have a whine about 40mph drivers on my route to work this morning. But having seen this makes my gripe seem trivial.

I hope the genetic tests don't find anything to...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

White van drivers that crash into your car while it's parked, then race off before anyone can get their registration. Looks like I pay a £350 excess then higher premiums for the next few years.

Sorry I didn't see your post before we went out. If there's anything I can help with give me a shout.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I'd just like to congratulate all the people who took part in the "Drive like a Geriatric" event on my way to work this morning.

I'd also like to point out that driving at 40mph whatever the speed...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Still better than my Monday. Got up looked out of the window to decide whether to drive or ride to work - no bike!

Worked from home waiting for PC Plod to come round. Told there's pretty much no...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I straight-line roundabouts, but only after I've checked that there's nobody on my right using the other lane. I also use my indicators, but that seems to be going out of fashion - which is my gripe...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Perhaps journalists have a formula for ranking events, something like

Importance = size of event / distance from newspaper office ^ 3 + picture quality * celebrity content

So a footballer...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

That's because it's so effing difficult to change the bulbs on modern cars. If the manufacturers want to make it a 2 hour job to change the bulbs they should fit bulbs which last at least 50,000...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

No shortage of those t*sspots round here either. You can spot them because they leave a much longer space than usual as they try to find a spot to push in. When I'm in the cage I do my best to leave...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

It means that when I swerve around someone moving out from the queue on my left the bike loses all grip and I end up in...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

There's nothing really news worthy here, just a civil servant having an auto-complete failure.

There will be teams of economists in all of the European capitals busily trying to quantify the...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

I'll add the van who decided to move into the space I was already occupying on the M25. I needed a generous amount of right hand to avoid being pushed into the central reservation.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

You can add truck drivers who see you coming from their right on a roundabout, and just pull out anyway because it won't hurt them if you end up under their back wheels.
