Back in a previous life I had a go on a CBR with an oversize rear, on that bike it looked good so I was thinking of doing the same. Riding it was decidedly dodgy though compared to my CBR600 FK that was the same. The whole thing oversteered and it lost all composure over the smallest of bumps on a corner.
I would not recommend trying an over size tyre, it may be cheaper initially but you may well screw up the handling and your riding fun.
For what it's worth, not only stick the right size on, but the right tyre type to match the front.
