many things are going on
first, with only 2700 miles, the transmission is not completely run in yet, as you get more miles it will operate smoother
other things that affect shifting
oil, over filled on oil will cause shifting problems, also dirty oil will cause shifting problems
clutch adjustment... the clutch is adjusted under the sprocket cover, it's a screw & locknut adjustment, make sure the clutch is adjusted then adjust the clutch cable
shift linkage.. must be clean and freely operating, the shifter & linkage is probably the most abused part of your bike, it doesn't get fingertip finesse, its manipulated with a booted foot, it's also close to the ground where it is subjected to road grime, wet roads are severe service on the shift linkage
