Reason for stupidity - Have always riding over winter before - a little unsure as to what to do, as this winter I'll be doing little/no riding!

Optimate enables you to keep the battery topped up whilst it is still on the bike.
This time of year I do not ride the bike quite as much, so I leave it in the garage connected to the Optimate. Some alarms drain batteries, so it solves any problems there. Much better for your bike than starting it of a couple of minutes once a week.
