Similar problem when I moved into a flat some years ago and Brittish Gas b*ggered up the inital reading on their records - result £665 bill for 3 weeks gas
The numpty on the phone really didn't have a clue what he was doing as he asked "how many radiators do you have? Do you leave your heating on overnight?...." Took 'em weeks to sort it
