Morning all.
K&N or BMC filters are made from a cotton compound, hence being washable.
Some bikes are more adversely effected than others, when fitted with either.
I have found that as long as the bike has a standard, or road legal exhaust, SV's seem to be ok with either of the above fitted.
Often a tweak out on the mixture screws (if they're not seized) is all that is required to obtain smooth running, but the same can be said of a bike running standard everything!
My own preference is for BMC filters, as the filter body is more substantial than that of a K&N and doesn't fall to bits quite as easily.
The cleaning kits usually contain enough cleaner and oil to clean the filter 2 or 3 times, as long as your careful & it's not excessively dirty.
