OK, for this to of caused an issue I would assume that the wires from the battery side touched the frame. Specifically the positive plate light wire grounded itself.

VERY unusual for that to cause a completely dead bike. Before now I've grounded the alternator on a frame (not the SV) and the bike lived.

Things to check. Erm? Fuses (again) inc main fuse (not in the fuse box).

Take out the main ignition fuse & check the flow in the thick orange wire (if this is below 7.3v I don't get an LCD on my pointy).

Check the feed going to the back of the ignition (red wire). If you have 12v down this wire, you have dash light power. The orange wire feeds the light switches, the red actually feeds dash panel with juice.

If I can think of anything more, I'll post back, but it could be a goosed ECU due to the spike. That'd be a nasty way to learn to insulate wires whilst you're working on the bike....
