A K3 is fuel injected right? If so then you may have an electrical fault with one (or both?) of the injectors that only shows itself after time....

If it is running lean perhaps it takes some time to heat up the pipes so it is only apparent on a long run.
Re the oil, Jonnierw, do you need to top it up at all?
