Personally, I got into biking cos I was sick to death of it taking me 2+ hours to travel 35 miles to work. Most of those "wasted" hours were spent watching bikes filter past me ... they may well have only been going 30mph (ish) but it was still 30mph (ish) faster than I was going.
However, once I got on the a bike, I dunno ... something just happens ... you get this immense sense of satisfaction at being able to accelerate to 60mph (and beyond) quicker than any 4-wheeled vehicle that most of us could afford! Then there's the whole idea of throwing your bike into corners whilst leant over that gives you an immense feeling of satisfaction ... it's almost like you feel like you've proven science wrong ... and that gravity doesn't seem to have the same effect when combined with centrifugal force ... I dunno, maybe all that science bit is rubbish, but what the hell ... it gives you a great feeling
To quote Swiss here ... that feeling of "nailing" a corner faster than you thought you could is like making love to a beautiful woman
Who cares anyway ... just enjoy!!!!
