NOOOOO painting it black is not the answer.
I've tried for nearly a year to keep that downpipe of mine clean. It might as well have been straight from factory the shine its got. I've kept the shine up with autosol but it has started to go brown in places, cause I've been out in wet/salt a few times lately. The bar keepers friend(asda £1.94) will keep it at bay, but it dulls the finish so you have to autosol it again.
For my next trick, I shall be getting the dremel out with some polishing felt wheels on it. It was originally poilished on a bench polish mop job. So i'll give it a try. And as its not that bad( as I'm obsessed with that downpipe being kwak kleen) it will probably scrub up a treat with a dremel.
Anything from the second bend back seems to not change colour at all, and is easlily maintained
