Holland has just done it, so I don't see why we can't.
Personally, the ban has been great! No more fuss about taking the kids out for meals etc because of a smoky environment.
For the company I work for, not so great. As a direct result of the smoking ban, they started loosing £400,000 every month (yes, you read that right!). That went on for 8 months (£3.2m down the pan) and they entered discussions to sell that sector of the business.
For a while it looked like the sale wasn't going to go through, which would of resulted in the loss of all jobs within that sector - approx 600 people at the dole office. However, a close rival to the company has just stepped up to the platter. They can have the UK, we'll conquer the world!
