More than a hint of sarcasm in the above by the way - what I really wanted to say is that Media Studies isn't the wishy washy course you think it is, I confess I used to think the same till my little brother did a degree in it; hell I thought it during his degree too. But since leaving he's had an extremely succesful career in journalism and he's very good at his job. Regardless of what you might think of the profession we all rely on journalists far more than you think, my 'lil bro has worked for national newspapers and his skill with language is awe inspiring, his written work is actually a real pleasure to read. |
The problem is that we are increasingly relying on people with a maths/physics/engineering background coming in from other countries( I should know...I am originally from further south on the african continent) to work in construction, engineering and technical fields. How many kids do you know who doing the correct A/AS levels to be able to fully understand the concepts demanded by such highly skilled and sought-after degrees?
I agree that we need journalists but the ones we have at the moment are, as said before, doing more scaremongering than anything else.
