On that road you'd be waiting a fricken long time. I ride it regularly its always heaving with traffic. Its a 4 or 5 mile stretch of road, its wide and well surfaced.

Personally I reckon you'd have come off alot worse than the guy in the video did in those circumstances, I wouldnt like to ride at 60 or 70mph into the side of a Ford Focus that decided it was doing a U turn right in front of just as I was about to come level with it, Look how the focus ended up, it was parked right across both lanes, the A pillar is across the white line demarking the middle of the road, the bonnet is out in the opposite carrigeway.

You might have hit the wing and gone over the bonnet using your technique and you'd have been going alot faster.

Edit - heres a screen grab of where the focus was when it finally stopped moving forward, look where the cats eyes are that are marking the middle of the road and then look at how much of the car is in the opposite carrigeway...

I dont think there was anything that much wrong with what he was doing, he was out wide when the traffic allowed and going up the middle when the opposite lane wasnt clear, look how he approached that roundabout when it went two lanes into one, he didnt barge down the middle of the traffic he sat and waited. So he IMHO was clearly thinking about what he was doing. He wasnt doing an inappropriate speed either, he was matching sensibly the speed of the traffic around him.

Filtering is always a risk, the only way to avoid risk is not to filter and I'm not going to sit in a big queue of traffic.
