Is it a standard lamp? It'll be fine if it is, they generally run cooler than a halogen (though some people have reported problems with the front plastic overheating if they let the headlight get really dirty. I was just amazed that anyone who's spend time and money on a headlight upgrade would then let it get that dirty)
I've had mine in for I think a couple of years now, it's out just now as my bike's already a bit cheeky come MOT time and I don't want to take the mick too much, but I've never had any issues whatsoever with it. (I only run one HID and one halogen, my LHS headlight is slightly broken and while I can adjust it right with halogens, I can't with the HID). I've ridden along behind police cars etc without any issues, got stopped for a "random safety check" and they never mentioned it (though they were too busy messing up a tyre depth check and getting confused by my Strada rear) And completely reliable too, 15000 miles? Though not all lit up of course.
The most important thing is aim- if you aim these badly, they're outright dangerous, no responsible rider should be riding around with a glarey headlight. Also colour choice- if you fit a daft purple one, it'll make less visible light and it'll attract the law too.
But, yeah. Amazing things. Very very pleased with mine, I'm not a good night rider so I'll take any support I can get, riding with just the nightbreakers at night now is pretty nasty.
