did you make sure you put the bearings in the correct order??

normaly without bearings it looks tapered and a step on one side of the wheel, one bearing has to go and sit flush on that step, then put spacer in and put the second bearing in untill it mates up with the spacer and without pushing the other bearing out

you will then have two dust caps to fit, this will make the edges of the spindle look flush.
