Yep, why make it easy when you can make it Microsoft????

Generally speaking, the registry entries are for processes and services that need to run to make the PC work (think drivers, antivirus, update managers and the like) whereas the startup folder is for programs that would be run from the user environment once the PC has booted and logged in

Yep, I very famously introduced a registry typo to our work PCs (I had to create the build images at the time - so only 1500 PCs or so ) that caused a few things to happen that shouldn't have...
