I think it was just ebecause there was a lot of movement (it was on a curvy cowl which are slippery and rounded), It was clamped down as solid as I could get it but still wriggled free (also ripped the rubber lugs from under the cowl out). I've not had a problem with soft stuff that compresses a little when you tighten it or when using the pointy rear seat.
Apart from that wee issue, the bags been ok - it's waterproof too which is nice.
