Default Re: Car satnav recommendations

I'd recommend a TomTom but if you get one you'd be best to get one of the earlier models even if you wanted to splash the cash on new prices.... I got a 530 not too long ago (510/710 just as good too). The reason I say this is because all these older models have SD card slots which means they can be "upgraded" and can be improved without cost if you know where to look or who to ask (my dad is an enthusiast which helps). New tomtoms do not have slots and require updates through official software which at the mo has put an end to any free "upgrading"

You should be able to get the refurbed as specialone has pointed out, and they're not too expensive either...

As an aside: I, and many others I am sure, use a program called Tyre where you can import google routes, manipulate the waypoints as you like and export for use in the sat nav...the sat nav will then take you on the longest route you'd like hitting all the waypoints you tell it...the TomTom works well with this functionality as do others I am sure
