Default Re: Why do people get restricted licenses?

personally i think that the DAS system is fundamentally flawed in the fact that you cannot ride a bigger capacity machine being a learner driver without a qualified instructor being present. WTF is a qualified instructor going to be able to do if the person riding the bigger bike gets into trouble? magically swap places with them or something. its a con plain and simple for the fact that you cannot learn on the roads yourself so you MUST rely on a training school which costs mega bucks. another point is that doing DAS gives you about 10-20hrs lessons on a bigger machine and if you pass then you are entitled to go out and buy any damned bike you please (given that you have the funds).

riding schools teach you the basics then its up to you to advance those basics. going out and buying a nice shiny gixxer for example and never having been on one is going to get some people into trouble as far as im concerned. i think the basics are not adequate enough due to not getting enough time on a bigger machine. for this reason i think that they should do away with the silly 33bhp restriction and teach everyone on a bigger capacity bike for the start and that includes the CBT.
