Without meaning to come across as a raving BNP loony or a Daily Mail columnist, an awful lot of the jobs that require good hard physical labour are filled by migrant workers, and because some locals won't work hard for the minimum wage, but Wladek will, the employers won't give them a look in. I have customers who refuse point blank to hire a local because they want more money to do the same work, but the Polish chaps that all share the one house to save money on living costs are happy enough with minimum wage and have enough left for a few vodkas and a few quid stashed away for when they go back to Poland.
