Hi thanks for the replies everyone

I've had no luck with it, I tried charging the battery but apparently you can't use a car charger on a bike battery which could explain why it didn't work

Like I said I'm not good at these things... I need to get new mirrors and screen, thought I had spares in the house but I can't find them so will have to get some more. The mirrors are the kind with indicators on and there are no holes in the fairings for indicators so I'll have to get more like them, I think fitting them might require the use of a soldering iron and I'd probably burn myself to death if I tried to do it. I've inflated the tyres to the correct pressure but it still feels like the brakes are stuck. After my failed attempt to charge the battery with a car charger, the lights won't even come on any more so I've probably destroyed it completely. The petrol in the tank has been there for 18 months and has gone off. Also, I found this morning that my dad decided to clear space in the garage by putting the bike in the garden. In the rain. Without the seat on...... It's a disaster
