I remeber using these maybe 27 years ago whilst on a Dartmoor camping weekend for the Duke Of Edinburgh award scheme. Small and light as you say, but the fuel is not as easily available as gas and petrol.
I took a Colemans petrol burner with me when I was touring europe for a couple of weeks, and it was a very powerful little cooker, and of course no problems with finding fuel for it. The only problem I had was my own fault; I inadvertently overfilled it, and managed to get massive (3 feet or so) flames spurting out the top of it, which singed my eyebrows a bit. It also stunk of petrol, even wrapped up in numerous carrier bags so don't pack it anywhere near your clothes.
