As Red says, maybe you are looking too far. It really is a quick glance just in case you missed anything in your mirrors or some courier riding is trying to make up time! If you are using your mirrors frequently then it helps.

In town you are looking at 100 different dangers as opposed to lanes where you may be looking at half a dozen. Once you get your head round that, and the fact nobody uses their mirrors or indicators, then riding through towns and cities can be fun. I commuted on the SV650S and GSXR and never found the riding position to be awkward unless in very slow moving traffic where is was impossible to filter.
