I don't have an SV any more, but here's where I would start when there's no electrical power on the bike.


1) pull the main the fuse and check it with a meter. As far as I remember it's not in the fuse box but next to the battery. If it's blown you might have the battery connected backwards or a failed rectifier diode.

Once you have checked this, my preferred tool is a 5W indicator bulb connected to two crocodile clips. This is a better test for 12V continuity than a DVM because it draws about 1/2 Amp so it will show up any dodgy connections.

2) If the main fuse is OK, use the 12V bulb to check that you have 12V on the battery side of the main fuse.
3) If that's OK insert the main fuse and use the bulb to confirm that you have 12V in the fuse box
4) Connect the bulb between frame and +12V on the battery (frame is usually connected to 0V)
5) Connect the bulb between the 0V connector block and +12V on the battery (corrosion is a common problem)
