Yep, that's the way to go. Have a look at the pannier rack with top plate as you have a little more room for front to back adjustment (this may mean drilling your own holes but no too much of a problem).

You may find that with the wife leaning back onto the top box pad your front wheel will be climbing for the sky if you set off from the lights quickly, but that could be considered as a bonus
