I've fitted Osram Silverstars in my car and other bike (rarely use the SV at night so haven't done that).
They are significantly better than the "standard" Osram 60/55W H4 bulbs which were in the car. They are still 60/55W but more efficient at making light, so heat output will be no greater.
Considering the SVS uses 45/45W bulbs as std, they'd be an even more significant improvement.
2 good reasons for using top brand bulbs (Phillips or Osram etc) is that they do have effective UV filtering to minimise any yellowing (which un-branded cheapo ones probably don't have), and the filaments are in the right place so the focussing is correct (which it may or may not be with cheapo bulbs). OK they cost more in the first place, but to a large extent you get what you pay for. I'd sooner pay a few quid extra for what should be a better quality product.
